Two Victims Revealed in Brown University Incident as Police Continue Search for Killer.

Two students who lost their lives in Saturday’s mass shooting in Providence were honored at the start of the week – while an intensive search for their shooter continued following the release by Rhode Island officials of the only individual of interest in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a gathering on Sunday.

Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s division of the College Republicans organization, the group said. Karoline Leavitt also posted words of sorrow on social media, remarking: “There are no words. Remembering her loved ones and companions, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his initial year at the prestigious university, family members said.

The victim's identification was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He harbored grand aspirations of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and assisting patients,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

What Happened

Nine more persons were injured in the violent event in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Officials stated on Sunday evening that a man aged 24 detained in a raid at a lodging about 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was being released.

“There is a killer at large,” declared the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last day or so.”

Public Fear

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke new worry for our community”.

The assailant began shooting inside a classroom in the engineering facility on over the weekend, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a handgun, a law enforcement official told the news agency.

Police that searched the hotel seized two handguns and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was arrested, the news agency reported.

Those Hurt

Among those wounded, a single scholar was allowed to go home, said the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in grave but unchanging health, and one remained in critical care, officials reported on Sunday.

A private school, a independent school in Durham, North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

Further Tributes

Cook was honored at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only during her upbringing... but at the university she was an incredible light in that particular place as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the club. “She was famed for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she worked for her branch and fellow classmates,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the passing of Umurzokov in a statement. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to his relatives, companions, and schoolmates and mourn the loss of his promising future.”

National Context

The fatal shooting at Brown, the nation’s seventh-oldest college with about over seven thousand undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, occurred during one of at least 392 shooting incidents recorded nationally so far in the current year, according to records. That Monday marked the 349th day of the year.
