The beloved police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.

An upcoming six-episode season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.

Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."

The previous series wrapped up in recent years with a finale that drew in over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been circulating ever since, but official word only arrived recently.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

Series seven will open with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue working to combat corruption within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."

Fresh Face and Complex Case

An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.

Yet, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the shadows, plot details suggested.

Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."

"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."

He added: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."

Cast Reactions

Martin Compston called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".

"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.

Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"

The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."

"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."

Series Legacy

Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.

The BBC haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.

The conclusion of season six brought the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.

However, the network announced on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
