The New Zealand heavyweight tested positive during a anti-doping examination carried out the very day of his 11th-round defeat against English fighter Fabio Wardley.
Wardley together with Parker participated in a pulsating encounter in London last October to decide the next mandatory WBO contender to unified heavyweight titleholder Oleksandr Usyk.
Joseph Parker had positioned himself as the leading contender to face Oleksandr Usyk following compiling an impressive six consecutive victories, yet put his shot at the title at stake in the UK and suffered a stoppage in round eleven.
A standard screening conducted on Parker via Vada the day of the match came back positive and leaves the veteran boxer facing a challenge to prove his innocence.
His promotion team issued a communique stating: "The anti-doping body notified everyone involved regarding Joseph Parker returned an adverse finding following a drug screening conducted on the fight day. During the ongoing inquiry, no additional comment will be made for now."
Parker became heavyweight champion six years ago before he was defeated for his championship belt by unanimous decision versus Anthony Joshua at the Millennium Stadium two years later.
Joseph Parker has been a frequent visitor in the UK from that point, competing in eight bouts altogether in Britain and relocating to the Irish capital for preparation alongside respected coach Andy Lee during this period.
Coached by Andy Lee, the boxer bounced back from his 2022 loss against British heavyweight Joyce to achieve several successes which put him as the top contender to meet Usyk prior to he was defeated to Wardley.
Following the boxer produced an adverse finding when he fought Wardley, reportedly involving cocaine, an investigation about the test outcome has been started.
