Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have discovered numerous entertaining creations from small studios. But, one stands out for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game features a character that is truly a dung striving to navigate to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."
How you interact is simple: just use a single jump button. Across one hundred fifty stages, encounter boss fights and access a market to acquire customizations for your fecal avatar.
Time your jumps precisely, as a mistake means restarting the level. Bounce off floating orbs to propel yourself upward, traverse disappearing platforms, and touch buttons to open secret routes. Earn UN-KOINS and use them on tougher levels where gameplay intensifies.
Graphically, the game features vibrant stages and a killer soundtrack. The simple visual style of morphing basic polygons could recall fans of beloved games like Earthbound.
Although difficult to name similar titles where you are a piece of feces, interactive entertainment often featured fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can craft grenades from character waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as fertilizer. And of course, this theme shows up a lot in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its silly concept, Unko Technica has already garnered notable accolades, including winning at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is ready at present on Steam, with the complete version set to arrive on Steam in the fall.
