The release of the highly anticipated Battlefield 6 was met with broad praise, notably for its flagship multiplayer mode. Exclusively on Steam, simultaneous player numbers surged to nearly 750,000. Nevertheless, despite its popularity, a growing number of players are expressing frustration over a portion of the release's toughest challenges, which are necessary to obtain particular firearms.
Players have started using custom matches created through Battlefield Portal to complete them, underscoring just how arduous these assignments have become.
Missions serve as Battlefield 6's fixed in-game challenges, in contrast to the periodically changed everyday and weekly missions. It features four categories of assignments, but although many merely grant skins and a few gadgets, completing the weapon assignments is the sole method of obtaining 12 of the 41 primary weapons available in the game.
Some of these gated guns may soon find their way on rankings for the best guns in Battlefield 6.
Over on Reddit, players are reasonably expressing their worries about how challenging and repetitive a number of these challenges are. An individual player pointed out one of the most egregious examples, required to unlock the KTS100 MK8 LMG:
"This challenge is so awful and completely out of mind, I want to tear my hair out," is a comment that illustrates just how annoyingly hard these tasks are.
The suppression mechanic in Battlefield is more diminished than before in the series, so it lacks nearly as many benefits in combat as it did in previous games. It only registers as suppression if you fail to hit several consecutive shots.
At the same time, hipfiring an LMG is highly imprecise and only works at very short distances, which is seldom the location you want to be. The commenter also highlighted the irony in the SMG challenge, to unlock the SCW-10, which demands eliminations when scoped in, when that challenge would be much better suited to hipfire kills, and conversely.
A different forum member highlighted an additional excessively hard challenge, within the sniper rifle category to access the PSR:
This is challenging enough as it is, but there's one more key thing to consider: most Battlefield 6 maps do not even allow combat at such a long range.
There exists a reasonable assortment of map sizes, but given there are merely nine levels in the game right now, it implies you must stick to playing a specific urban map, another expansive area, and possibly Operation Firestorm in a best-case scenario if you aim to take long-range shots from beyond 200 meters.
There is a workaround though: the portal. The custom game creator is a tool that allows you to make custom game modes on any map you prefer, featuring computer-controlled players. This means you can cheese the system… but it isn't truly in line with the intended gameplay experience.
However, when completing the missions in a standard match appears to work against fun, since you must engage in such an unconventional way that harms both you and your squad, who can blame someone for grinding them out in a custom game so teammates aren't hindered?
It should not be shocking if several of these tasks are adjusted to be less difficult in the near future, because if they're not, a portion of the user base simply are unlikely to obtain the restricted guns.
Currently, the player base continues to express their views on these demanding battlefield assignments, expecting a fairer player experience in subsequent patches.
